Q. Where is the Shelter located? A. The emergency shelter is in a confidential location. We do, however, have public offices where people can receive counseling services and pick up literature. Q. If your location is confidential, how do people get help? A. The first step in accessing any of our services is calling the 24-hour Shelter Hotline at (434) 293-8509. Q. Do you provide services to men? A. We provide services to victims of domestic violence regardless of gender or sexual-orientation. If a man is being battered, we will make arrangements for alternative safe-housing. Q. Do you just provide services to people in Charlottesville? A. The Shelter provides services primarily to people from Planning District Ten (PD 10)--the city of Charlottesville, and the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson . We can also shelter people from outside of PD 10 if space is available. Q. How are you funded? A. The Shelter is a private, non-profit organization that receives funding from three funding streams--federal and state grants, funds from local governments of the areas we serve, and private contributions from community members and businesses. Q. Do you provide services to people who are disabled? A. The Shelter does provide services to people with disabilities, however, we are not set-up to provide extensive care in our emergency shelter. If a victim of domestic violence required extensive care, we would work with other community agencies to provide support for that person. They would still be able to take advantage of any of our other services. For more information, refer to the other links on this site or contact us via email at: info@shelterforhelpinemergency.org. |
